Ørsted: green light for O&M base in Vlissingen
Ørsted has received permits to build its operations and maintenance facility for the Borssele 1+2 offshore wind farm in Vlissingen-Buitenhaven. Earlier this year a lease agreement for the land and marine infrastructure in the harbour has been signed with North Sea Port. Wind farm Borssele 1+2 has a capacity of 752 MW and will be located in the Northsea, at 23 kilometres from the coast of Westkappele.
Economic opportunity
Claus Bøjle Møller, senior programme director for Borssele 1+2 says: `Signing the agreement with North Sea Port and getting the permits for our base are two important milestones for Borssele 1+2. We look forward to coming to the Vlissingen harbour.`
Jasper Vis, country manager Netherlands for Ørsted, adds: From the start of the project, we have felt very welcome in the province of Zeeland and feel supported by the regional and local authorities. The Vlissingen harbour has an excellent infrastructure and strong track record in offshore wind. Zeeland had identified offshore wind as an economic opportunity. We are happy to join the regional business community and look forward to the cooperation with local and regional partners.`
Strategic location
“Ørsted’s choice for the Vlissingen-Buitenhaven confirms Vlissingen’s leading position in the construction and maintenance of offshore wind farms`, says John de Jonge, alderman of the municipality of Vlissingen. `Our strategic location and our maritime knowledge and skills make us a natural centre in the North Sea area for this new industry.’
